RJ Logistics team members volunteer at Ford Field for Lions ‘Huddle for 100’ to help feed Michigan families in need
DETROIT – As part of our ‘Social Responsibility’ model, RJ Logistics is always looking for opportunities to give back to our community for the greater good. On Thursday, October 10, we were contacted for an opportunity to help feed local families in need.
The Detroit Lions partnered up with Kroger to host their “Huddle for 100” food drive event at the Ford Field. RJ Logistics, as well as hundreds of other fans, players, employees, suite holders and club members volunteered 100 minutes of their time to help package over 50,000 boxes of food to donate to food banks across Michigan.
‘Huddle for 100’ was a large, multiple day event which showed how much work we can get done in such a short amount of time when we all get together for a good cause.
“It was fantastic seeing everyone come together and donate their time to an event like this. The people of Detroit want to show the world that they care about their neighboring communities, and that they’re ready to make a difference.” said Kris Mersinaj, one of employees who was present at the event. “I’m looking forward to continue attending events like these in the future. It feels good to know that that our company encourages these kinds of community service opportunities from the employees.”
Our team got together with other volunteers to form an assembly line in which we each packaged a certain food item. We were able to stack three pallets of boxes which were about 7 feet high by 4 feet wide in under 100 minutes!
Anyone can help feed families across Michigan by purchasing a pre-packaged $5 box of food at any Kroger location from December 4th to February 1st. This initiative is part of Kroger’s ‘Zero Hunger Zero Waste’ impact plan which aims to end hunger in local communities that the grocer serves, as well as eliminate waste by 2025.
